Privacy policy
This site runs no analytics, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, shows no advertising and sets no tracking cookies. What follows is the short list of what it does handle.
Who is responsible
Plus One Reader is the data controller for this website. You can reach us through the contact form.
The contact form
When you send a message we receive your name, your email address, the subject and the message itself, and we keep them for as long as the conversation is useful — in practice, up to two years. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
The legal basis is your consent, given by ticking the box on the form. Sending the message also records a one-way hash of your IP address, which is used only to limit how many messages one sender can submit per hour.
Downloads
Each download is counted so that we know which material is being used. The log line contains the date, which file it was, and a one-way hash of your IP address combined with the book identifier. That hash cannot be turned back into an IP address, and it is not linked to any other information. Logs are kept for twelve months.
Cookies
One cookie exists, named por_session. It is set only on the contact page
and on the password-protected download pages, it holds nothing but a session
identifier, and it disappears when you close your browser. It is strictly necessary
for those pages to work — it is what remembers that you entered the right password —
so it needs no consent banner. Every other page of this site sets no cookie at all.
Server logs
Our hosting provider, OVH, keeps standard web server logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited period, as part of running the service and defending it against abuse.
Amazon links
The “Buy on Amazon” button sends you to Amazon’s own site, which has its own privacy policy and its own cookies. The redirect happens on our server, so nothing about you reaches Amazon until you actually click. We do not receive any information about what you buy.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Write to us through the contact form and we will answer within thirty days. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page.
